Ramadan Mubarak

April 12th marked the first day of the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the most sacred month of the Islamic calendar and Muslims believe that it was during this month that God revealed the first verses of the Quran to Mohammed.

The observance of Ramadan includes fasting every day from dawn until sunset. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Fasting reminds people of their human frailty and dependence on God for sustenance; shows what it feels like to be hungry and thirsty in order to feel compassion for (and a duty to help) the poor and needy; and reduces the distractions in life for better focus on God.

The end of the month of Ramadan is celebrated with Eid, the “breaking of the fast”, which is a 2 or 3 day celebration with extravagant feasts, hospitality and generosity and charity towards others. In many countries Eid is a national holiday and homes are decorated with lanterns and lights.

We want to wish all who are celebrating a Ramadan Mubarak.
