Little Canada Beyond Our Borders

The Liberation of the Netherlands

Last year we marked the launch of Little Vimy Ridge, the very first in a series of builds that highlight the huge impact that Canadians have throughout history, in our signature miniature form.

We’re excited to continue this series in partnership with Canso Investment Counsel Inc. for this latest iteration that brings to life a deeply meaningful outdoor exhibition from 80 Years of Freedom, honouring Canada’s role in liberating the Netherlands during the Second World War.

The exhibition features 80 Faces of Freedom, a striking portrait series by Dutch Canadian artist Jason van Bruggen, as well as sculptural elements by Canadian designer Brett Belcher and creative direction by artist Job Rutgers. Together, their work commemorates a shared history and celebrates the enduring friendship between Canada and the Netherlands.

Read the first-hand stories and life-changing accounts of both the liberators and the liberated from 80 Years of Freedom.

Our scaled-down installation captures the essence of the full-sized experience through intricate models and tiny portraits that echo the original’s emotional impact. Visitors to Little Canada can take a bird’s eye view of the mini-trail and connect with the powerful legacy of freedom, sacrifice, and international friendship that shaped both nations.

This new installation is a small extension of a larger story that invites us to reflect and connect with our history. Join us in celebrating the values that bind us together, within our own communities and beyond our borders!
